On Saturday, March 6th beginning at 7 PM, Ballet Western Reserve in association with the Oakland Center for the Arts will present

“Building Art” and evening celebrating the Morley Arts Building, downtown Youngstown and home to Ballet Western Reserve, Ballet Western Reserve Center for Dance Education and the Oakland Center for the Arts.

 

The fun-packed, interactive evening will include choreography by BWR students and Richard Dickinson, Artistic Director of Ballet Western Reserve.  Mr. Dickinson will serve as director for the evening. Also on tap for the evening are free ballroom classes taught by Travis Manero of Fred Astaire; Boardman, OH; Speeches by Richard Dickinson on the process of choreographing and Bill Lawson of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society on the history of the Morley Arts Building. Local Artist Gary Taneri will offer $100.00 portraits painted on the evening of the benefit (reservations requested).  Youngstown Symphony principal cellist Michael Gelfand and Nate Gelfand, father and son, will offer classical cello and violin sonatas.  Former Miss Ohio, Amanda Beagle and her vocal students in recital, accompanied by pianist Anthony Ruggiero AND The Oakland Center for the Arts will offer a sneak preview at their upcoming production of “Dinner with Friends”.

The student choreographers are being mentored by teachers on the staff at Ballet Western Reserve Center for Dance Education.

 

The event will be catered by the new restaurant Michael Alberini’s – Restaurant and Wine Shop located in Poland, OH and Rulli Bros. will supply the beverages.

 

Tickets are $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for students/seniors.  All funds raised will go towards repairs and renovations of the physical building, located at 218 West Boardman.  Including the restoration of the East Wall of the studio which became exposed after the State Theater was torn down. A “dinner for a year” basket will be raffled off during the evening.
